Article: Zohra Atmar on Masjid Habib al-Rahman

"One can talk on and on, as the Afghan diaspora has a tendency to do, about what things are wrong with Afghanistan. The Masjid project is one of the things that is right with Afghanistan. It is the result of the coming together of the sacrifice of many, many different people, led by a sincere brother dedicated to the cause of Allah (swt), who are making a real difference. Everyone involved, from those funding to those building, recognized what was lacking and are now doing something about it, sacrificing time, energy, and money in the process..."

The Masjid Project
Once upon a time before Soviet occupation, the masjid in this small district near Kabul, was a center of religious studies and social activities. Years have passed since the people were able to pray Jum’ah and tarawih in their own masjid. Financially unable to repair the collapsing building they were forced to pray at home or travel for basic necessities supplied by another distant masjid. Today those same villagers delight at the home of their masjid being constructed, anew and are anxious to help in the process. Soon, with your help, this community will have an Islamic Center that will accommodate 750 people for Jum’ah, Janazah & Tarawih prayers, Quranic studies and more. It will serve as a learning center and seminary for locals, expatriates and students visiting from abroad. Other projects include a medical clinic and carpet factory.

A Living Metaphor: The Famous Chenar Tree

On the plot of land within the masjid lies the famous Chenar. A magnificent tree that rises well above the masjid itself, the Chenar has been beaten from the many bombshells and grenades thrown at it over 20 years of war. However, like any faithful being, it still stands taller and stronger yet. Its shade has a special place in the hearts of the migratory people of the Shamaal. Your donation, like this tree will help to grow and strengthen this community and those blessed by it’s shade!

You are helping to build:
A permanent Masjid for Allah
